Advertising for Brand Recognition

When most companies run an advertising campaign they do it for one main reason. Sales. Generating sales is obviously the most important thing for any business, since without it you will soon have to close up shop. When it comes to advertising, however, there are other goals that you should keep in mind beyond the actual sales.

One of the most important things that you should be thinking about is brand recognition. If you can get it so your target audience immediately recognizes your brand, or better yet, is thinking about it on a regular basis, your advertising campaign can be considered a success. Building brand recognition does two great things.

  • Repeat Sales – First, if someone does buy something from you because of an ad, brand recognition will keep your company in mind so they will come back and buy from you again in the future.
  • Delayed Sales – Most people who see your ads won’t actually make a purchase right away because they aren’t in the market for what you’re selling. If you build brand recognition, however, they are much more likely to come to you in the days, weeks or months to come when they are ready to make a purchase.

With this in mind, you should always be thinking about building brand recognition when advertising. Even if generating sales is your primary goal, no ad should ever run without you looking at how it will benefit or hurt your overall brand. Here are some things to consider.

Is Your Logo Featured

Your logo is a big part of your brand. Even if your logo is simply your company name, it is still important. Make sure it is featured in all of your ads in some way. While you won’t likely be as popular as iconic logos like McDonalds or Nike, getting your logo recognized is an important task that can really help you to build long term growth.

Is Your Ad Catchy

There is a reason why so many major corporations use jingles or music in their ads. It helps them to become more memorable. While music isn’t the only way to make a catchy ad, it is something to consider. Finding a way to make your ads more memorable (as long as they feature your brand well) is going to help you build brand recognition.

Does it Look Cheap

Many small business look to save money by making cheap ads. While this may seem like a good idea at first, it will actually hurt you in the long run. Spending a little more up front so that your ad looks nice and professional will help you to build a strong brand that people will be impressed with. Even if you have to cut back on the total number of ads you run, it is better to make a quality ad the first time.

Whatever type of advertising you do, make sure you’re thinking about how it will reflect on your brand. Building brand awareness is a long term goal, but it is very important. Keep this in mind whenever thinking about your marketing efforts.
